Kaleici is where locals still hang out in the evenings, where you’ll find those tiny restaurants tucked into 800-year-old buildings that somehow serve the best food in the city. From ATICI HOTEL, you can walk to Hadrian’s Gate in about three minutes, and the old harbor (where all those boat trips leave from) is maybe a five-minute stroll downhill. You know what’s really nice? You can actually walk everywhere you want to go, which is rare in Turkish resort cities where everything’s spread out along the coast.

What I love about staying here is how you can step outside and immediately be part of the old town’s rhythm. There’s this little tea garden about two blocks away where old men play backgammon all afternoon, and the woman who runs the spice shop on the corner will actually explain what to do with sumac if you ask nicely. The narrow streets can get busy during the day when tour groups come through, but early morning and evening — that’s when Kaleici shows its real personality. You’ll hear the call to prayer echoing off the stone walls, smell dinner cooking from apartment windows, and understand why people have been living in this exact spot for literally thousands of years.

Couples especially seem to get what this place offers — there’s something romantic about wandering these ancient streets together, then coming back to a comfortable base that doesn’t break the bank.   Centrally located in Kaleici old town with just about everything at the footstep.
  Clean sheets, towels and friendly personnel, always ready to help.

  What could be improved: Bathroom door was very worn out as well as bathroom entrance. Toilet bowl was loose, not fully fastened to the floor.
  The music from the neighboring hotel has been playing up to 23:00, so it may be not suitable for everyone.
  The advertising pictures were misleading. We would have not chosen this hotel/room if the real pictures were presented, regardless of the good price.
