Bacchus Pension Overview

You know what struck me first about Bacchus Pension? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street called Zeytincıkmaz – honestly, I had to ask three locals how to pronounce it properly – but once you find it, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special. The building itself has that weathered Mediterranean charm that you can’t fake, with stone walls that have clearly seen decades of Antalya summers and those wooden shutters that actually keep the rooms cool (not just for show like some places).

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in old Antalya rather than just visiting it. Kaleici gets absolutely packed with tour groups during the day, but here’s the thing – Zeytincıkmaz is just far enough off the main drag that you miss most of that chaos. I mean, you’re still a three-minute walk from Hadrian’s Gate and maybe five minutes to the harbor, but you can actually have a conversation on the street without shouting over crowds. The owner, this incredibly welcoming guy who speaks about four languages, told me the pension has been in the same family for over thirty years, and it shows in all the right ways. The rooms aren’t huge – this is a historic building, after all – but everything feels intentional. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the air conditioning actually works, which honestly isn’t a given in some of these older places.

What really won me over was the breakfast situation. They serve it on this little terrace that overlooks the neighborhood’s rooftops, and you can see glimpses of the Mediterranean between the buildings. Nothing fancy, just really good Turkish breakfast basics – fresh tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, local honey, proper Turkish tea in those little glasses. The whole setup feels like you’re eating at someone’s house rather than a hotel. I actually ended up chatting with other guests most mornings, which doesn’t usually happen to me. One thing to know – the streets around here can get a bit lively in the evenings since there are several restaurants nearby, but it’s more of a pleasant hum than anything disruptive. If you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs just in case. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the city – they gave me directions to this incredible little restaurant that I never would have found otherwise, and warned me about which taxi drivers to avoid (saved me probably fifty lira right there). For the price point and that 8.1 rating, Bacchus Pension delivers exactly what you’d hope for in Antalya’s old town – authenticity without sacrificing comfort, and a location that puts you right in the heart of things without drowning you in tourist mayhem.

Reviews of Bacchus Pension

  • Bundza from United Kingdom – 6 April 2025 (8/10)

The staff is trying to grand any request one can have. Thank you again for letting me stay longer in my room after check out and for making me a proper Turkish coffee 😃

What could be improved: If you want something, you need to ask, cleaning lady does not come every day to clean the room, or every two days, so bins were pretty full. It was not pleasant to eat breakfast outside in the rain as they didn't had the roof top, but we took the breakfast and eat it in our room.

  • Susan from United Kingdom – 2 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location, comfy bed and fabulous breakfast. I’m vegan so was thrilled to find plenty to choose from. Staff were so friendly and helpful- particularly Musa

What could be improved: Wifi a bit hit and miss but not a problem for us.

  • Maxine from United Kingdom – 23 September 2024 (8/10)

Lovely family run business, friendly & helpful. A traditional property in a great location.

What could be improved: For us, our room was a little small a 6 night stay, that was likely an oversight on our part on booking as they do have larger rooms.

  • Michael from United States – 6 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location in Antalya, very walkable in the old town. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The little pool area was nice on really hot days. AC worked great. Lots of good food and beaches very nearby.

  • Punka_3 from United Kingdom – 16 July 2024 (9/10)

Great location in the old town – but also quiet at night. Good, heathy breakfast with lovely views from the rooftop, and friendly staff. Nice plunge pool and nice cold air con in the room. Clean towels provided every day. I’d stay here again.

What could be improved: Room and cups were not cleaned each day, housekeeping just came in to provide fresh towels. No complaints otherwise.

  • Ebru from Germany – 3 July 2024 (9/10)

Great location! Very close to many attractions, which you can reach on foot. It's also close to the bus and tram stops if your destination is a little far. The hotel has a pool, which I didn't know about and was surprised when I found out. It is a very peaceful place. No noise, no disturbance. The rooms are very clean. The air conditioner saved our lives, I would say. The weather was so hot in June that we rushed to the room every time we went outside. My concern at the beginning was if the air conditioner worked well, which it did and we were happy. Ibrahim is friendly and helpful. If you have any questions or requests, he is always there to assist you. We had a great vacation and have already recommended the place to my boss, who will book a room with his family for their next vacation.

  • Eugenie from South Africa – 1 July 2024 (9/10)

    Location and staff were great

  • Leo from Jersey – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

The location is great. Right at the centre of Antalya's old town, but slightly distant from restaurants, bars and nightclubs – to keep the noise away. It has a swimming pool with almost 24/7 access, and the breakfast is fantastic with delicious and various choices of food, and great view of Mediterranean Sea. Most importantly, airport transportation is available (with extra charge) and the hotel owner Ibrahim was very kind and patient with our delayed arrival – we landed at almost 00:00 the next day, but we still got back with a speedy ride, check-in and access to the swimming pool!

What could be improved: wifi only covers the hotel room and swimming pool – very weak at the rooftop restaurant. And the wifi password is not informed to guests unless being asked.

  • Sampriti from India – 1 June 2024 (9/10)

Right in the heart of Kaleci (old town) with easy access to so many food options! The best part was the helpful staff who went out of their way to collect us from the point where out taxi dropped us off. Ibrahim was super knowledgeable and called us to ensure we had a plan in place well before we reached. He provided better options to suit our needs in the next stage of our trip and also packed breakfast which we would have to skip due to early start. Not to forget – the view from the breakfast terrace area is stunning!

What could be improved: The place was a bit difficult to find when we arrived late in the evening but once there, the lively neighbourhood made us feel very safe.

  • Bruce from Australia – 21 May 2024 (8/10)

Convenient location. Friendly and responsive host who helped with tour bookings and restaurant suggestions. Reasonably quiet given location within old town. Pretty good breakfast with great views.

What could be improved: No complaints.
