Castle Inn Boutique Hotel Overview

You know what’s funny about the Castle Inn? I almost walked right past it the first time – tucked away on this tiny dead-end street called Kandıller Çıkmazı in Kaleiçi’s old quarter, it honestly looks more like someone’s beautifully restored Ottoman house than a hotel. Which, I mean, is exactly what it is.

The whole place feels like you’re staying at your cultured friend’s family home, assuming your friend happens to have impeccable taste and a thing for authentic Turkish architecture. There are maybe eight or nine rooms total, so you’re not dealing with tour groups clogging up the breakfast area or fighting for the good spots by the tiny courtyard pool. Actually, that little pool area is where I spent most of my mornings – it’s this perfect sun-trapped corner where you can hear the call to prayer echoing off the old city walls but still feel completely secluded. The owner, this lovely Turkish woman whose English is way better than my Turkish will ever be, makes these incredible Turkish breakfasts that she serves on mismatched vintage plates. I’m talking proper beyaz peynir, fresh tomatoes that actually taste like something, and honey that’s probably from someone’s cousin’s beehives.

Here’s the thing about the location – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hadrian’s Gate, and the harbor is right there, but you’re off the main tourist drag enough that you won’t have people taking selfies outside your window at 6 AM. The narrow streets can be a bit tricky if you’re dragging a massive suitcase (I learned this the hard way), and forget about getting a taxi to drop you at the door – they’ll get you to the edge of Kaleiçi and you’ll walk the rest. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. The rooms themselves are small but thoughtfully done, with these gorgeous kilim rugs and restored stone walls that keep things cool even when Antalya’s doing its full Mediterranean summer thing. My room had this tiny balcony that looked out over the terracotta rooftops, and yeah, the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty up there, but who cares when you’re watching the sunset paint everything golden? The bathrooms are modern enough – good water pressure, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings – though the hot water sometimes took a minute to get going.

If you’re looking for a big pool, room service, or a concierge desk, this isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’ve discovered some secret corner of old Antalya, where you can walk to incredible restaurants (seriously, try the place with the blue shutters two streets over – no sign, just ask for “balık evi”), browse the antique shops, and still make it back for an afternoon nap in your perfectly quiet room, then yeah, Castle Inn gets it right. Just book early – with so few rooms, the good dates fill up fast, especially in shoulder season when the weather’s perfect and the crowds thin out.

  • Michelle from United Kingdom – 29 April 2025 (8/10)

Zafar and Ali were lovely hosts at the Castle Inn, very friendly people, and we were made to feel so welcome. The location is 10/10, right in the old town, which is beautiful. If you like cats, then you'll love the castle Inn, we were lucky enough to be present when 3 kittens were born! The breakfast is lovely and fresh, the coffee sachets not so nice. All in all, a lovely stay was had

What could be improved: The bathroom wasn't great, it was a bit smelly, this isn't because it wasn't clean but more a drainage problem I suspect and I've seen on the photos that other bathrooms have shelves and somewhere to put the toothbrush but ours didn't, only something small but it was a pain having to try and balance the toothbrush on the side of the sink.
