You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Mermerli Banyo Sokak – honestly, the narrow cobblestone alley looks like it leads nowhere special. But then you stumble upon Dogan Hotel, and it’s like finding this perfectly hidden gem tucked right into the heart of Kaleiçi’s old quarter. The building itself has that weathered Ottoman charm that you can’t fake, with thick stone walls that actually keep the summer heat out (trust me on this one, it matters in Antalya).

What really got me was how the place feels more like staying at someone’s thoughtfully restored family home than a typical hotel. The owners clearly put serious thought into every detail – I mean, the bathroom tiles alone probably took months to source, and there’s this gorgeous courtyard where you can actually hear the call to prayer echoing off the ancient walls around sunset. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re designed smart, with these beautiful arched windows that frame views of either the Mediterranean or the old city’s rooftops. Actually, if you can swing it, ask for a room facing the harbor – you’ll catch glimpses of the Roman-era Hadrian’s Gate through the gaps between buildings, which is pretty magical first thing in the morning.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in old Antalya rather than just visiting it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the ancient harbor (where all the tourist boats dock, but early morning it’s just fishermen and cats), and Mermerli Beach is right there when you need to cool off. The narrow streets can be a bit tricky with luggage – I’d definitely pack light or be prepared for a bit of a workout getting your bags up from wherever your taxi drops you off. But that’s part of the charm, really. You’re inside the old city walls, surrounded by 2,000 years of history, staying in a place that manages to honor that heritage without feeling like a museum. The whole vibe is intimate and personal in a way that those big resort hotels along the coast just can’t match, and with ratings consistently in the high 8s, it seems like most people who find this place feel the same way I do about it.

  Quiet pretty and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They upgraded us to a Junior suite and we were very comfortable. Small but crystal clean pool. Food was extremely good. Delicious breakfasts and we had dinner twice exceptional food

  Lovely hotel and the breakfast was great it was in a great location too.
  
  What could be improved: The barman was quite rude and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The rest of the staff were great it would have gotten a higher score if he wasn't so rude.

  Friendly staff and great location and terrific value for money. Staff could not be more helpful as I booked the room on booking.com while I was in the hotel reception after checking they had a twin room available. They cleaned and prepared a room in 16 minutes while we waited on the lovely terrace with a complimentary Turkish tea.
  
  What could be improved: The shower leaked a little bit onto bathroom floor but only in one corner so rest of bathroom floor not wet.

  For the price, it's outstanding. Location is fantastic – everywhere we needed was in walking distance, a taxi rank spitting distance even though the hotel is within the walls of the old city which has restrictions to many vehicles.
  
  The staff were amazing, Sebastian & his team often would go out of their way – within a couple days they'd know what we liked and would deliver a drink before we'd even sat down! Some of the drinks were out of this world, and the staff would sometimes go mad with extras which made the holiday special.
  Food was great too, evening meals were very good quality and we chose to eat there more than the local restaurants in the end.
  Comfortable rooms with Air Con (even in March we needed it) and cleaners did a great job changing towels, making beds each day.
  
  If you want a hotel for sightseeing and short walks, this is ideal. Even for our day trips picking us up by bus from "Hadrian's Gate" would only be an 8 minute walk. Top of town (modern part) just 9 minutes walk.
  
  What could be improved: Minor things really…
  Was out of season in March, the pool was empty (wasn't made aware at point of booking) – but weather not warm enough to be used to be fair. The budget room we had was small, two people in the bathroom almost impossible and only one side of the double bed accessible. The other bedroom (deluxe) was top floor, a lot of stairs. Not ideal for everyone, but balcony/view made up for it. Thankfully staff helped with suitcases.
  Occasional sewer smell, on the street more so which seems quite common on such old locations, but also one of the rooms had an issue twice – but only for a short time.
