Eski Masal Hotel – Special Class Overview

You know what really struck me about Eski Masal Hotel when I first walked through those doors? It feels like someone’s incredibly stylish grandmother decided to turn her Ottoman mansion into a boutique hotel – and honestly, that’s probably not far from the truth. The whole place sits tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street (Mescit Sokak) in the heart of Kaleiçi, where you can actually hear the call to prayer echoing off the ancient walls if you’re up early enough. I mean, you’re literally staying inside Antalya’s old town walls here, which is pretty wild when you think about it.

The rooms are what I’d call authentically Turkish without being kitschy about it – carved wooden furniture, kilim rugs that actually look like they came from someone’s family collection, and these gorgeous arched windows that frame views of either the narrow street below or glimpses of the Mediterranean beyond the rooftops. The air conditioning works well (crucial for those July visits, trust me), though the old stone walls keep things surprisingly cool even during the day. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being in the middle of everything – those thick walls are no joke. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which you can’t always count on in these historic buildings.

Walking to breakfast each morning, you’ll pass maybe three other tourists max before you hit the main drag where all the tour groups cluster. That’s the beauty of staying on one of these side streets – you get the full Kaleiçi experience without feeling like you’re in a theme park. The hotel staff genuinely knows the neighborhood; they sent me to this tiny family-run restaurant around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in Turkey. You can walk to Hadrian’s Gate in about two minutes, the marina is a pleasant five-minute stroll downhill, and if you want to hit the beach at Mermerli, it’s right there. Parking is… well, it’s what you’d expect in a medieval old town, meaning forget about it and just take a taxi from the airport (about 20 minutes, shouldn’t cost more than 100 lira). The whole area comes alive around sunset when locals start their evening walks and the restaurant terraces fill up, but it settles into this peaceful quiet by around 11 PM.

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of boutique hotels that try too hard to be special, but Eski Masal just *is* special – it fits into Kaleiçi like it’s always been there, probably because it has been. If you want to actually experience old Antalya rather than just pass through it, this is your spot.

What could be improved: Nothing you can fault

  • Giuseppe from Italy – 18 May 2025 (9/10)

    Spacious rooms and decent breakfast

What could be improved: Cleaning can be slightly better

  • Megan from Australia – 8 May 2025 (8/10)

The hotel is perfectly located in the Old Town. Away from bustle and noise. The rooms are very quiet, grand and beautifully appointed. The beds are soft and comfortable. The bathroom is very spacious with double basins. The rooms all have high ceilings and windows that open. Air conditioning takes the heat out of the day and makes it lovely and cool if you need a cat nap. Our host was very attentive and breakfast was a delight particularly when sitting in the shade by the pool. A short walk to the Port and to the Main Street. 10/10.

  • Alex from United Kingdom – 3 April 2025 (8/10)

Convenient location for exploring Old Town Antalya. Extremely helpful staff.

What could be improved: Be aware that the hotel isn't accessible by Uber etc and therefore getting there seems to require official taxis with permits to go into the old city.

  • Euan from United Kingdom – 27 March 2025 (9/10)

Great friendly staff, small hotel with big rooms, excellent Turkish breakfast with eggs cooked to order, located in the heart of the old town and ideal for restaurants, bars and live music.

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (8/10)

The room was lovely. Absolutely massive.
Great location in the middle of the old city by the harbour.
Staff friendly and gave directions about what to see and do
Breakfast was great and loads of it

  • Robert from Netherlands – 13 November 2024 (9/10)

Amazing big room in Ottoman style. If you walk outside you find yourself in the old centre of town with small streets, lots of shops, clubs and restaurants. Staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast was also nice and made with love.

What could be improved: Parking was easy for 10 euro per day. I was lucky that they had some room on the parking nearby. If that was not the case, that could become very difficult.

  • Chris from Canada – 2 November 2024 (8/10)

It's quiet, it's comfortable, and breakfast is nice
    You feel like home

  • 지영 from South Korea – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

Hospitality is amazing. Me and my family felt welcome in such a beautiful city. Breakfast was served in individual plates for each family. Extra servings can be requested. We used the ottoman suite and the room was spacious and jacuzi was superb. Would like to stay next time!

What could be improved: We could not eat breakfast due to our early flight on the last day. We received complimentary sandwiches that were available if you asked for them on the day before. The sandwiches were a bit soggy.

  • Richard from Australia – 24 September 2024 (8/10)

The manager was very helpful when I left some small luggage at the car hire/ airport.
