Hotel Karyatit Kaleici Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Kadırpaşa Sokak looking for Hotel Karyatit Kaleici, I almost missed it completely. It’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street in the heart of Kaleiçi’s old quarter, and the entrance is so understated you might think it’s just another restored Ottoman house (which, actually, it sort of is). But once you step inside… well, that’s where things get interesting. The whole place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish Turkish grandmother decided to open her historic mansion to guests, complete with stone archways, traditional kilims scattered around, and these gorgeous wooden shutters that actually keep the afternoon heat out – something you’ll definitely appreciate during Antalya’s brutal summer months.

What really got me about this place is how it manages to feel authentically local without trying too hard. You know what I mean? The rooms are carved out of what feels like genuinely old architecture, with thick stone walls that keep everything surprisingly cool, and honestly, the silence at night is remarkable considering you’re literally in the middle of the old city. I mean, sure, you’ll hear the occasional late-night reveler stumbling back from the harbor bars, but it’s nothing like the chaos you’d expect. The staff – and this is something I noticed right away – they’re not doing that over-polished hotel performance thing. They’ll chat with you about where to find the best döner (hint: it’s not near Hadrian’s Gate where all the tour groups go), and they actually know which hammam is worth your time versus which ones are tourist traps.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The 7.3 rating makes sense because it’s definitely more character than luxury. Some rooms are quirky in that “historic building” way where the shower might be in an unexpected corner, and if you’re the type who needs a massive modern bathroom and room service until midnight, you’ll probably be happier at one of those big resort places along the beach. But if you want to wake up and walk two minutes to see the actual Roman harbor where boats have been docking for literally thousands of years, or if you like the idea of having breakfast in a courtyard where you can hear the call to prayer echoing off ancient walls… well, then you get it. The location alone is pretty incredible – you’re inside the old fortress walls, walking distance to everything that matters in Kaleiçi, but far enough from the main Atatürk Caddesi drag that you’re not fighting tourist crowds every time you leave your room. Plus, and this is practical stuff that matters, they’ll help you figure out parking (which is otherwise a nightmare in the old city), and they know all the little shortcuts through the maze of streets that’ll save you from getting hopelessly lost your first few days.

Reviews of Hotel Karyatit Kaleici

  • Irene from Italy – 7 July 2024 (7/10)

Very pretty, amazing staff, very good breakfast

What could be improved: Cockroaches on the ground floor, not at the top one

  • Chiara from Germany – 9 October 2023 (7/10)

I really liked having breakfast by the pool.
The hotel is really central too.

What could be improved: The rooms are tiny and quite shabby.

  • Marie from United Kingdom – 6 October 2023 (6/10)

    Room was a good size.
    Kettle in room..
    Good location
Staff phoned for a taxi to the airport for us.

What could be improved: Pool had murky green water, asked staff if it was OK to go in?
They said yes, just green water!
We chose not to go in, it didn't look healthy, and no one else used it.

Shower by pool did not work, trellis put infront of it so customers couldn't access it. Meaning you couldn't sunbath by the pool as there was no way to cool down….as no access to pool or shower

Was there 3 nights, room not cleaned at all, no towel or sheets changed, no bin emptied or toilet rolls replenished.

Bathroom extractor fan didn't work and tile grouting and seals black with mildew.

No mattress protector and mattress was stained.

    We would not revisit.

  • Kristof from Hungary – 20 September 2023 (6/10)

    Nice host, great location.

What could be improved: The description said it has a private parking, it did not have that. Exposed, broken outlets.

  • Maeve from Ireland – 13 September 2023 (6/10)

The location is very central in the Old Town, just a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants and sights. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

What could be improved: The room really needs doing up. Previous occupants broke the bathroom door which was then left outside our room on the balcony which wasn't a great look. There was no choice at breakfast, which meant some mornings were far better than others. The towels had holes in them. The room was very small too, just had enough room for our bags at the end of the bed. One of the bedside lights wasn't working. The aircon leaked the first night too. A lot of small things that could be easily fixed.

  • Ollerton from United Kingdom – 11 September 2023 (8/10)

    Location

What could be improved: No kettle

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 13 September 2022 (8/10)

It was reasonable hotel to stay for 2 nights with excellent location. Rooms were very small yet comfortable and had closet and dresser.

Swimming pool is small but clean and well maintained

What could be improved: They didnt offer kettle for tea making and had no iron. When asked for iron they said they can iron it for us but will charge 20 lira per piece. This was only hotel which failed to provide iron and ketttle . I stay all over turkey i 17 days and was couldnot make my tea

They have their owb bar which they want u to use and charge 6 euro pp for breakfast. We had our beeakfast at firnici cafe near the hotsl and paid 200 lira for 3 people breakfast

  • Natalia from Netherlands – 18 August 2022 (7/10)

It is a small, cosy hotel with a pool, quiet and right in the old city. We had a room with a balcony, which was a great addition. It is a couple of minutes walk to the taxi spot, cafes, bars and about 10 minutes by foot to the beaches. Air conditioning was also working fine. There is a small fridge, plenty of drawers, a wardrobe , kettle, tv and small bath in the bathroom. Sound isolation was also good.

What could be improved: Wifi was not always working well in the room, there were small ants in the bathroom, and the airco was quite noisy (for sleeping), however there is no option to change the program with the remote controller. The room was not cleaned daily as well, we had to ask for it, also for toilet paper when it was finished and sometimes take out the garbage ourselves.

  • Rakhis from Morocco – 1 August 2022 (8/10)

Excellent Staff and big thanks to Imane for her Help and precious advices

  • Anna from United Kingdom – 2 July 2022 (7/10)

    fantastic location

What could be improved: small, old fashion rooms
