Sultan Pension Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Mektep Sokak looking for Sultan Pension, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked into this narrow side street in Kaleiçi’s old quarter, and you know what? That’s actually perfect because it means you’re away from the tourist chaos but still right in the heart of historic Antalya. The building itself has that weathered Ottoman charm that you see all over this neighborhood – nothing fancy, but it feels authentic in a way that some of the flashier places just don’t.

What really got me was how the owners (I think they’re a local family who’ve been running this place for years) actually seem to care about making sure you understand the area. The guy at reception – his English was pretty good, not perfect but way better than my Turkish – spent like twenty minutes showing me shortcuts to Hadrian’s Gate and explaining which restaurants nearby weren’t tourist traps. I mean, that’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t get from a chain hotel. The rooms are clean and simple, nothing Instagram-worthy but honestly more comfortable than I expected for a 3-star place. The air conditioning works well (crucial in summer), and the beds are actually decent – I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places with worse mattresses.

Here’s the thing about staying in Kaleiçi though – it gets lively at night, especially on weekends. You’ll hear some street noise, but it’s more like the soundtrack of people having dinner and chatting rather than obnoxious partying. I actually found it kind of charming after a day or two. The pension is maybe a five-minute walk from the marina, and you can easily wander over to the old harbor for breakfast or just to watch the boats. Parking is… well, it’s Kaleiçi, so parking is always going to be a bit of an adventure, but there are spots if you’re patient. Most people just walk everywhere anyway since the whole old town is pretty compact. What I really appreciated was that Sultan Pension sits right in the middle of everything without feeling touristy – you’ve got actual locals living on the same street, kids playing in the evenings, that sort of thing. For the price point and that 8.9 rating (which honestly seems about right), you’re getting a genuine slice of Antalya life rather than some sanitized hotel experience.

What didn't I like? I suppose, if anything, the noisy pubs but you would be able to hear the noise within the old town everywhere. I am not giving this place a 5 star rating for luxury, or for style however I will give it a 5 star rating based on the couple that run it, based on the location and the view. Sultan, who runs the Pension is a lovely lady who will do everything she can to help. If you want luxury, room service or meals, go to a big, impersonal hotel. If you want a comfortable, clean room with character for a reasonable price then stay here. It's only a husband and wife team who run this place and I have not got a single complaint.
Rooms are available on different floors, no lifts. If you have bad knees, don't ask for the view.

Great location in the old town, the hosts were fantastic and could not do more to help us. We will stay here again next time we visit, Nice old traditional building in the old town close to the market, harbor and lovely bars.

What could be improved: No negative points for us, but the old town is built on a hill so would not suit everyone.

  • Jon from United Kingdom – 28 December 2023 (9/10)

Excellent position in the old town with many shops and bars to visit and literally on the harbour front, excellent service and a beautiful family atmosphere

I went on a vacation for 1,5 week in antalya I didn’t know what I was expecting arriving at the hotel. The owners of the hotel were very nice and it felt like u were visiting your family. The one thing I really liked about the hotel was the hygiene, it was very clean.

The second thing I really liked about the hotel was that is was located at a really cute place and not far away from the beach!

The style of the hotel is old and authentic but really cute, comes from a person who really likes modern.

  • Carole from United Kingdom – 11 July 2023 (9/10)

I travelled on my own for the first time ever, so, I was looking for a small guesthouse with a more personal relationship that might be able to support me being, WAY OUT of my comfort zone.
The hosts Sultan and Mustafa were amazing.
    Breakfast was amazing.
    Nothing was too much trouble.
We had very little language in common but with lots of gestures, a bit of translate technology and a younger family member, we got round everything.

What could be improved: There seemed to be a local club that went into the wee hours of the morning. The sound travelled quite badly – fortunately after the first night I seemed to get used to it.

  • Dmitry from Russia – 4 June 2023 (9/10)

Great attitude of owners, nice location, clean room – our trip was wonderful.

  • Mohammed from United Kingdom – 3 January 2023 (9/10)

From start to end the host were fantastic in every way. Nothing was to much trouble advising where to eat, visit, local hamam etc. Would highly recommend.

  • Sahir from United Kingdom – 10 October 2022 (9/10)

The Mosque nearby was amazing and all the shop staff along the way were very friendly.

What could be improved: Wish we had enough time to enjoy the holiday more.

  • Alan from United Kingdom – 20 September 2022 (8/10)

the owners treat you like family, so friendly even with the language differences. the room was clean and tidy with an amazing view from our terrace.

What could be improved: Nothing not to like. some people moan about the stairs to the room being steep. Yes they are but if that’s all you have to moan about then ok.

  • عمار from Iraq – 13 September 2022 (9/10)

Perfect location , cleanliness and hospitality.
and surprising marina view near the pansiyon.

What could be improved: room is small. Also hot-cold water mixer control is not perfect.
