Engin home Overview
You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of boutique places around Antalya, but Engin home caught me completely off guard. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – 1405. Sokak – where you wouldn’t expect to find anything touristy, honestly. The first time I tried to find it, I actually walked past twice because it looks more like someone’s beautifully restored home than a hotel (which, I mean, it sort of is). The building has this authentic Turkish character that you just can’t fake – weathered stone, traditional shutters, and this gorgeous wooden door that feels like it’s been welcoming people for decades.
What really gets me about this place is how genuinely personal everything feels. The owner clearly lives and breathes hospitality, and I’m not just saying that because they gave me the perfect room recommendation. They actually sat down with me over Turkish coffee and mapped out these incredible local spots that weren’t in any guidebook I’d seen. We’re talking about family-run restaurants three blocks away where the pide is ridiculous, and this tiny tea garden where locals gather in the evenings – stuff you’d never discover wandering around the main tourist strips near Kaleiçi. The neighborhood itself is brilliant for getting a real feel for how Antalya actually works beyond the resort bubble. You’ll hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque (it’s beautiful, not disruptive), smell fresh bread from the bakery down the street every morning, and watch kids playing football in the small square nearby.
The rooms themselves are thoughtfully done without being precious about it. Everything works properly – good water pressure, reliable wifi, air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter – but there are these lovely personal touches like handwoven textiles and locally made ceramics that make it feel special. I loved that they didn’t go overboard trying to be Instagram-perfect; it just feels comfortable and real. Parking can be a bit tricky since it’s a residential area, but they help you figure it out, and honestly, you’re close enough to everything that you won’t need your car much anyway. The Old Town is maybe a 15-minute walk, and there are dolmuş stops nearby if you want to hit the beaches or venture further out. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the whole street had this lovely quiet energy – not dead, just peaceful. I imagine summers get busier, but the thick stone walls keep things cool inside. If you’re looking for a pool or room service or those typical hotel amenities, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to feel like you’re staying with a knowledgeable local friend who happens to have impeccable taste and genuinely cares about your experience, then Engin home is pretty much perfect.
