Sava Hotel Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Sava Hotel on Gazi Mustafa Kemal Boulevard – I mean, it’s a three-star place in a tourist area, so you kind of brace yourself. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this refreshing lack of pretension that I found really appealing. It’s clean, modern enough, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests rather than going through the motions.
The location is what really sold me though. You’re right in Altınkum, which locals will tell you is one of the better stretches of Konyaaltı Beach – the sand is actually golden here (hence the name, if your Turkish is rusty), not that grayish stuff you sometimes get closer to the old town. I could literally roll out of bed and be on the beach in about three minutes, which is dangerous when you’re supposed to be exploring Antalya’s historic sites. The hotel sits on the main boulevard, so there’s a bit of traffic noise during the day, but honestly it dies down after 10 PM and wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared. Plus, being on the main drag means you’ve got dolmuş stops right there – those shared minibuses that’ll take you anywhere in the city for practically nothing.
What I really appreciated were the little things that show someone’s actually thinking about the guest experience. The air conditioning works properly (not always a given in this price range), the Wi-Fi reaches the rooms without cutting out every five minutes, and – this might sound silly – but the shower has decent water pressure. I’ve stayed in fancier places where you’re basically getting misted by sad, lukewarm drizzle. The breakfast spread was surprisingly solid too, with actual fresh fruit and not just the usual processed cheese and stale pastries. I mean, it’s not going to win any awards, but it’ll definitely fuel you up for a day of wandering around Kaleiçi or hiking in the Taurus Mountains. The pool area gets pretty busy during peak season (July and August are absolutely packed), but if you’re there in shoulder season like I was, you can actually find a decent spot to read without kids doing cannonballs three feet away. Look, it’s not the Ritz – the furniture’s a bit worn around the edges and the hallway carpets have seen better days – but for what you’re paying, the Sava delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises.
